Activities

Background Info

In the Physical and Health Education curriculum, students are expected to learn how to make healthy choices that influence their well-being. This includes identifying and describing strategies for avoiding or responding to unsafe situations at home, at school or in the community; accurately identifying signs and symbols and potential hazards; and describing possible consequences of unsafe behaviours.

"Electrical safety announcements"  provides basic safety rules to follow. Students create short Public Service Announcements to show what they’ve learned about electrical safety.

The "Downed power line demo" gets students practicing safe distances to keep away from a downed power line.

In "Think ahead… Electrical safety", students learn to recognize potentially hazardous situations, then decide how to act safely.


Assessments

In these activities, observation of individual and group work identifies students’ ability to:

  • Identify electrical safety hazards and strategies for staying safe
  • Explain what to do near a downed power line
  • Apply their learning to everyday situations
  • Work in small groups
