Environment Week recap

Over 100 teachers took students through one of our Environment Week activities. The "Light up my world" activity was a big hit, exploring how light pollution affects nature.

Check back often for more special events and activities throughout the year that are fun and engaging for the whole class.

About Environment Week

Environment Week is an annual event in June that celebrates environmental accomplishments in Canada. It's also a time to encourage Canadians to make their own positive contribution towards protecting the environment.

To help your class make a positive impact on the planet this Environment Week, we developed activities that explore ideas around clean air, reducing light pollution, and renewable energy in B.C.

Relevant core competencies:

  • Connect and engage with others (to share and develop ideas)
  • Acquire, interpret and present information (includes inquiries)

  • Creative thinking: generating ideas
  • Critical thinking: analyze and critique
  • Critical thinking: question and investigate

Social Responsibility

  • Contributing to community and caring for the environment

The activities also connected to a variety of grade-specific curricular competencies and content in a variety of subjects including Physical and Health Education, Science, Arts Education, Applied Design, Skills and Technologies, and English Language Arts.
