Overview
Your students have never known life without electricity. It may be difficult for them to imagine what life was like before it. But consider the ways we use electricity, what life was like before electricity, and what we would do without it.

Instructions
What you'll need
- "That was then, this is now" slideshow
- "That was then, this is now" slideshow notes
- "That was then, this is now" worksheet (one for each group)
- "Group work evaluation rubric" (one for each group)
- Take your students through the slideshow, using the notes as a guide.
- Review the "Group work evaluation rubric" with students.
- In groups of four, have students complete the "That was then, this is now" worksheet by listing the ways they use electricity during the day and suggesting a way they could do each activity without electricity.
- While students are working, ask different groups to share their ideas with the rest of the class to keep the creativity flowing.
- Combine groups to discuss and compare ideas.
